河井寛次郎と古布 / Mingei - Kanjiro Kawai & Antique Japanese Textiles

9月23日より渋谷の古書店・東塔堂にて、A antiquesのキュレーションにより、河井寛次郎の陶芸作品と日本の古布をご紹介いたします。 河井がまだ民藝運動に合流する以前の初期作品と、民藝運動に傾倒しその中心となった中期の作品です。 古布は、琉球の紅型着物や古裂、糸を足して補修を重ねながら継がれてきた裂など、各地の祈るような日々を映す手仕事の品々。営みの中に、力強さと可憐さが息づいています。 僅かな点数ではございますが、佳品と自負しております。 これまで海外での買付を通じ、土地を歩き、食べ、空気を吸い込むなかで何かが腑に落ちる瞬間を大切にしてきました。 今回の日本のもの、民藝のものにおいてもまだまだ理解を深めている途上です。 それでも、私にとっては世界の見方を変える、知るきっかけとして手元に置きたいと思えるものでした。 連続での展示も今回で一区切りとなります。 ぜひお出かけください。 ● 会場：東塔堂 | Totodo 会期：2025年9月23日［火］→ 10月5日［日］ 時間：13:00-18:00［会期中無休］ 入場：無料 ● A antiques Antique dealer Instagram: @aantiques___ Mingei - Kanjiro Kawai & Antique Japanese Textiles Totodo Tokyo, Japan September 23 – October 5, 2025 Open 1:00pm – 6:00pm Open daily during the exhibition We are pleased to present ceramics by Kanjiro Kawai together with antique Japanese textiles. The ceramics include early works from before Kawai’s involvement with the Mingei movement and mid-period pieces from the years when he stood at its center. The textiles—Ryukyuan kimono, historic fragments, and cloths repeatedly mended by adding threads—carry the handwork of everyday, almost prayerful labor from many regions, where strength and delicacy live side by side. Though modest in number, we believe the pieces are choice. Through buying trips abroad—walking the ground, eating local food, breathing the air—I have valued those moments when things quietly click into place. With Japanese and Mingei objects I am still learning; even so, these are works I want to keep close as prompts that change how I see the world. We look forward to welcoming you.
